Message from the Chair, January 2026

Historians note that the direction of American politics swings back and forth– always reacting to prior electoral results. What’s less emphasized about this phenomenon is the work put into altering the political course. The 2026 election is our opportunity to do just that, if we’re willing to put in the work.

Kansas Republicans are trying to politicize the state supreme court and inject the influence of wealthy donors by pushing for the passage of SCR 1611 in the primary election. They’re going after the Supreme Court because the justices have fulfilled their responsibility of upholding the Kansas and the US Constitutions and protecting our basic rights. We’ll need volunteers to step up and defeat this assault on our system of checks and balances.

Once we succeed in the primary, it’s time to focus on the general election. Since 2024, Democratic voters have been yearning for the chance to regain power, mitigate harm, and lead us into a brighter, MAGA-less future. Voters will get to choose who represents us in every partisan office from the US Senate to the Riley County Commission. If you’re tired of the cruel, reckless, and unconstitutional path the country has ventured into, join a campaign and fight back.

The only reason the pendulum of American politics ever swings back is that everyday people stepped up to do extraordinary things. Let’s earn for ourselves the leaders and the governments we deserve.

Best,

Kelm Lear
