VOTE NO
HISTORY: In April 2019, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that abortion would remain legal in Kansas.
Six out of seven justices on the State Supreme Court ruled that the Kansas Constitution protects a woman's right to abortion - EVEN IF the landmark Roe v. Wade case were to be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: The Republicans in the legislature were bent out of shape by this Supreme Court ruling. And they vowed to not give up their war on women.
And this is what they came up with. . .

THE CONSEQUENCES: This is their play: carve out the state constitution to open the door for anti-abortion laws to come down the pike.

VOTING NO WILL KEEP THE STATE CONSTITUTION AS IT IS.
VOTING NO WILL MAKE ZERO CHANGES TO THE STATE CONSTITUTION.

This is the language you will see on the ballot:

If the Kansas Supreme Court says the current state constitution protects a woman's right to make decisions about her own reproductive health care, then lets change the state constitution.

§ 22. Regulation of abortion. Because Kansans value both women and children, the constitution of the state of Kansas does not require government funding of abortion and does not create or secure a right to abortion. To the extent permitted by the constitution of the United States, the people, through their elected state representatives and state senators, may pass laws regarding abortion, including, but not limited to, laws that account for circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or circumstances of necessity to save the life of the mother.
BEWARE: Confusing and misleading language is being used in the campaign for this special election.
-
Do not be fooled by the phrase "value them both women and children." This is language used to deliberately manipulate the electorate into taking away women's rights. This is a violation of women's bodily autonomy.
-
You may see the word "Primary" used in order to confuse and dissuade Unaffiliated voters from casting a ballot. But this is a SPECIAL ELECTION and it is open to all registered voters.
ALL REGISTERED VOTERS, REGARDLESS OF PARTY REGISTRATION,
ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON THIS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
